About Explorations in Carceral Geography
The Explorations in Carceral Geography seminar series aims to provide the time and space to engage in an in-depth way with scholarship on the carceral or on topics that are of interest for carceral researchers. Held two to three times a year as an online event this enables us to be open to all beyond borders. This seminar series goes beyond the usual engagement with scholarly work and delves into pieces of writing by using an open format with an interview of the authors, a short presentation and much time for discussion. We want to foster debate on thinking through and beyond carceral space and rethink what it means, where we can locate it and what this entails for the future.
This seminar will focus on extensive discussion and an in-depth insight into works such as books, PhD theses or series of articles. In a conversation with the researcher(s) and audience, we will discuss conceptions of a topic, research design, methodological problems and solutions, conceptual hesitations and choices, confirmation (or not) of hypotheses, consequences for the work to come, as well as political and strategical issues. We hope this online seminar promotes a global conversation – an active involvement of attendees in the debate is most welcome.
